Pet-Friendly Vacations for the Summer

With summer just around the corner, many of us have vacation on our minds. There’s something about warm air and sunshine that makes a vacation extra relaxing in the summer and being able to bring your furry friend along makes it even better. Whether you’re planning a ruff-stic escape or a road trip through the city, there’s a variety of summertime vacations your pet can accompany you on.

Cottage Country

From the calm water to the fresh air and beautiful scenery, it’s hard to deny the appeal of a summer cottage escape. There are many rental cottages that are pet-friendly, so you don’t have to worry about your companion missing out on any of the fun. Most vacation rental listings will clearly state whether the property allows pets. If it doesn’t, be sure to ask as you don’t want to wait until you arrive to find out that your pet isn’t welcome!

Dogs that love water will be especially happy with a trip to a lakefront cottage. Bring a few toys along that you can play fetch with off the dock, helping to keep your pup happy and active! Just be sure to always keep an eye on your dog when they’re in the water. For some added safety, consider bringing a life jacket along so you can feel more at ease while they’re swimming.

Camping

We’re lucky to live in a country with many national and provincial parks that welcome our four-legged friends. Whether you’re in the mood for a day trip or a longer vacation, camping offers an inexpensive getaway for you and your pet. From hiking scenic trails to lazing by the campfire, you and your beloved animal will be able to enjoy plenty of quality time together in the great outdoors.

Many campsites require that dogs be on leashes at all times, so make sure you bring one with you even if your dog is trained to heel. It’s also a good idea to bring a tie out stake with you. This way, your dog will be able to roam around when you guys are at the campsite, without you having to worry about them running off.

Pet-Friendly Hotels

Some of us may avoid planning vacations in the city because we don’t think there will be anywhere to stay with our furry friends, but not to worry! From hotels to quaint bed and breakfasts, there’s plenty of pet-friendly accommodations available for you to rest your head. A quick Google search will bring up a number of directories to help identify the most appropriate accommodations near your destination.

Be Prepared

If you decide to embark on an outdoor adventure with your pet, be prepared! Warm weather means a higher risk of fleas and ticks, so whether you’ll be hiking through the woods or hanging at the beach, make sure you’re proactive.

dual action flea and tick collar can help protect your pup from head to tail. Featuring innovative Precor technology with Insect Growth Regulator (IGR), this collar provides four months protection against adult fleas and ticks, five months protection against flea eggs, and effectively eliminates existing adult fleas, ticks, and flea eggs. Not only will being proactive save you time and energy, but your beloved companion will also remain comfortable.

And of course, whether staying at a cottage, campsite or hotel, be sure you’re prepared to clean up after your pet once it’s time to leave!
