5 Purr-fect Dates to Take Your Pet on This Valentine’s Day

Tail wags. Kisses on the nose. Barking at 3am to make sure we’re aware of the threat squirrels pose outside. What do all of these have in common? They’re our pets' way of showing us just how much we really mean to them. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, return the love by taking your built-in Valentine on the purr-fect date! Whether you’re looking for a cozy night in or a new adventure, here are 5 ways to celebrate the season of love with your four legged best friend.

1. Game Night

We all know there’s nothing like the joy of a good Scrabble game or the endless entertainment of a deck of cards - so why not include your pet too? While poker *may* prove to be a challenge if your opponent has paws, bring the fun indoors with a furry friendly game night. Create an obstacle course, play hide and seek, or throw a new toy in the mix (like this treat puzzle or this boa teaser) to keep them sharp and engaged. It will start a memorable new tradition for the two of you… without the post-Monopoly tears.

2. Coffee Shop Date

There’s something charming about a cozy coffee shop - especially during winter months - that makes it the perfect spot for some quality time. Treat your littlest love to a puppuccino at a pet friendly cafe (just make sure it won’t upset their stomach first) as a sweet way to tell them how special they are to you. If you’re looking to take the experience from a tall to a grande, dress them to impress in a new bandana or V-day themed sweater that will make all the baristas swoon - and hopefully give you an extra shot in your latte too. Coffee is a love language right?

3. Double Date in the Park

If you have someone special in your life who has a smaller, furrier someone special in their lives, double the love with an oh-so-romantic stroll in your favourite park (extra points if it’s at sunset). Dial up the charm with a fancy leash for your wingpup to show off to their canine crush or give them their very own Lady and the Tramp moment with the perfect Collaps-A-Bowl for that post fetch water break. You know what they say: true love is not having to pick up poop on your own.

4. Movie Night

If you and your pet are homebodies, have no fear - all you need is a couch, a pair of pjs, and the biggest bag of buttery popcorn (or chicken hearts) you can find. Give your BFF (best furry friend) the ultimate gift of unlimited cuddles with a movie night in the comfort of your own home, no tickets required! Looking for some recommendations? Try The Secret Life of Pets, 101 Dalmatians, or Puss in Boots for a barking good time.

5. DIY Treat Making

Have you heard that the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach? If you don’t believe us just ask your pet when you secretly toss them a piece of lettuce under the dinner table (or your grandma, she'll back us up too). If you want to nurture their bellies and your bond, throw on your best apron and have your pet join you in making DIY treats just for them. Mix some animal friendly ingredients like peanut butter, pumpkin, and banana into frozen treat molds, pop them in the freezer, and prepare for some extra slobbery kisses. You can even try one yourself - we don’t judge.

Whether you walk around on four legs or two, pets are the perfect reminder that love comes in all forms. So take it from us: no matter how you celebrate with your furr-ever friend, they’re just happy to be by your side. Happy Valentine’s Day!
