Ren’s Pets Named One of Canada’s Best Managed Companies

[Toronto, ON, May 9, 2023] – Ren’s Pets is a winner of Canada’s Best Managed Companies program for 2023, sponsored by Deloitte Private, CIBC, The Globe and Mail, Salesforce, and TMX Group. The Canadian specialty pet retailer has been recognized for its industry-leading performance, strong culture, and sustained growth by receiving this prestigious award.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Canada’s Best Managed Companies program awards excellence in private Canadian-owned companies with revenues of $50 million or greater. To attain the designation, companies are evaluated on their leadership in the areas of strategy, culture & commitment, capabilities & innovations, and governance & financial performance.

“This is a first for Ren’s Pets, to be honored with the Best Managed designation,” said Scott Arsenault, CEO at Ren’s Pets. “We owe it 100% to our amazing team at Ren’s. We are fortunate to have the best people engaged in our business, working in our stores, home office and distribution centers. The passion they have for pets, the unwavering respect for our core values, and their commitment to being there for your Pet’s Best Life all comes together to make Ren’s a Best Managed company. We are so incredibly proud of this achievement.”

Canada’s Best Managed Companies is one of the country’s leading business awards programs recognizing innovative and world-class businesses. Every year, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies compete for this designation in a rigorous and independent evaluation process. Applicants are evaluated by an independent panel of judges with representation from program sponsors and special guests.

“Ren’s has been in an exciting high-growth mode, opening four to twelve stores annually for the last six years while significantly expanding our ecommerce and innovation capabilities even during the pandemic. Through it all, we’ve remained focused on our people, our customers, and their pets,” said Larissa Wasyliw, VP of Ecommerce & Marketing at Ren’s Pets. “At the end of 2023, we’ll have 57 stores and an award-winning national online business- it’s an amazing success story for a Canadian owned, Canadian operated business that started as one single farm & feed store forty-eight years ago in rural Ontario.”

The 2023 cohort of Best Managed companies share common themes such as having a people-centric culture, targeting effective ESG strategies, and accelerating operational digitization.

“In it’s 30th year, the Best Managed program recognizes companies who combine strategic expertise and a culture of innovation with a steadfast commitment to their communities,” said Derrick Dempster, Partner, Deloitte Private and Co-Leader, Canada’s Best Managed Companies program. “This year’s winners, including Ren’s Pets, have demonstrated an increased focus on environmental, social and governance themes as means to drive impactful and sustainable business outcomes. Their unwavering dedication to their core purpose, and to enhancing client relationships, cultivating a healthy culture with their employees, and serving their communities, set the standard for excellence for Canada’s business ecosystem.”
