National Pet Day

National Pet Day was created as a way to show our appreciation for our pets and encourages people to adopt animals in need. This National Pet Day, Ren’s wants to spread the love by sharing some of our favourite pet stories from our customers.

Oliver

When I was a small child I loved the movie Oliver and Company and bugged my mom endlessly for a cat of my own. One day she said I was finally old enough to have a cat of my own so we went to the Humane Society to adopt a cat. Of course, when I saw this little orange kitten, I yelled “that one” and promptly named him Oliver. He and I were the best of friends. Every night before bed my Dad would bring me a glass of milk, and before I took a sip, I would let Oliver have a few licks before I drank my milk. Then we would both go to bed with him sleeping above my head.

Stuart

My favourite memory of Stuart is the time he planned and executed a great robbery. We had made some bruschetta, and as we were sitting down at the table to eat, we looked over to see Stu on the kitchener counter checking out the food. A prompt yell from us to “Get down!” sent him into panic mode. He grabbed a piece of the food, quickly jumped down from the counter, and rushed down the hallway - clearing the dog gate mid-hall on his way to the dining room. By the time we found him under the dining room table, there was no trace of the food. Not only had he gobbled it down already, but we realized he had not dropped any of it during the pursuit. Thankfully there was no upset tummy from his indulgence, but this story is definitely one we look back on and laugh about!

Tootles

Tootles is always full of beans right before bed! He’ll tear around the house and hide in new places like the bathtub or behind a curtain so we can’t find him. But, as soon as I start singing “The Farmer in the Dell” he comes running to his bed and curls up into a little ball by the time the farmer brings the wife - every time.
