Cats and Stress

In today’s fast-paced world, stress is often unavoidable. Unfortunately, it’s not just us humans that experience stress, as it can also affect our feline friends. Some of the signs of a stressed cat include a change in sleep or eating behaviours, diarrhea, over-grooming, inappropriate scratching and taking care of their business outside of their litter box. Luckily, if your cat is exhibiting signs that they are stressed, there are ways you can help.

Scratching Posts

Scratchers can provide your cat with a great outlet to mark their territory and satisfy their natural instincts, but if they don’t have access to one, they can become stressed or anxious. From inclined and curved scratchers to cat trees and condos and more, there are a wide variety to choose from and it’s important that you select the one best suited to your cat’s personality. By watching where, when and how your cat prefers to scratch at home, you’ll be able to pick out an appropriate scratcher that will allow them to fully satisfy their need to scratch.

If you have a multi-cat household, a cat tree or condo with multiple posts and landings can be a good option. The BeOneBreed Katt3 Kubes can be configured in a variety of ways that provide more than one access point to the top of the tree. This can be a great solution for preventing any conflict between cats who tend to use the cat tree at the same time!

Food and Water

A cat can also become stressed out in a multi-cat household if they feel as though there isn’t adequate food or water available to them. When putting out food and water for your cats, be sure to separate it to hopefully avoid any of it being stolen. A pet water fountain can make a great alternative to ensure that your cats always have access to fresh water. The Petkit Pet Fountain features a unique water flow design, encouraging your cat to take a drink and stay hydrated. With a triple purifying system, the Petkit Pet Fountain effectively screens impurities, reduces chlorine and removes heavy metal ions from your pet’s drinking water.

Diffuser

If there has been a recent change in your home, whether you have moved or introduced someone new, this can also cause your cat to feel stressed out. Consider using a diffuser to help relieve your cat’s stress and make them feel more comfortable at home. Working alongside the brain’s neurotransmitters, the special blend of essential oils released by the Pet Remedy Calming Diffuser can help calm the nerves of anxious or stressed cats. Simply plug in the diffuser and let the destressing properties slowly release into the surrounding area.

Clean Litter Box

Cats don’t enjoy using a dirty litter box and having to do so can cause them to get stressed and act out. Be sure you are scooping your cat’s litter box regularly or consider using a self-cleaning litter box! Not only can a self-cleaning litter box make your life easier, but it can help make sure your cat remains in a good mood by ensuring they always have a clean space to take care of their business!
