Canadian Kennel Club Agility Team Canada

As Canadians, most of us are familiar with our country’s impressive teams in a wide variety of sports, such as basketball, baseball, football, hockey and more! But did you know that Canada has an equally impressive canine agility team? That’s right, Canada has its very own team of dogs and handlers that represent our wonderful country in a number of competitions each year!

A non-profit, volunteer organization under the umbrella of the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), Agility Team Canada represents Canada at Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) events. Teams of handlers and their athletic four-legged friends are selected to represent Canada at FCI events such as the European Open (EO), the Americas and Caribbean Open (A&C) and the Agility World Championships (AWC), as well as the Crufts International Invitational and the American Kennel Club's Agility Invitational.

Ren’s is extremely proud to announce that our very own Dave Dery will be competing with his dog Widow on Agility Team Canada at the FCI European Open 2019! Taking place from July 25th to 28th in Arnhem, the Netherlands, the FCI European Open is an agility competition that will see teams of handlers and their furry friends from various countries around the world compete for bragging rights and prizes.

“This will be our very first time on a CKC Canadian EO Agility World Team. We're excited about the whole experience and I've never been outside of North America before, so going to the Netherlands is very exciting. We've been working so hard over the years to finally achieve our goal and dream of making this team, and it’s hard to put into words how much I wanted this to happen for us. It means the world to us to have the opportunity to compete on a world stage against some of the best teams and previous world champions  we'll be in great company.” said Dave Dery, Receiver at Ren’s Kitchener.

“I'm also very happy to be able to give something back to Widow’s breeders, who also happen to be my friends, Ashley and Levi Hilliker, and make them proud as they've given me so much by giving me Widow. We really hope to do well and make Canada proud of us. My quote that I've always lived by would be ‘Just go for it’.”

Ren’s is honoured to have Dave and Widow represent our company and Canada at the FCI European Open 2019. We wish you both the best of luck and plenty of tail-wagging fun!
