New Puppy Shop

Choosing to bring a puppy into your home is both exciting and stressful. Between brainstorming names and picking out cute toys, it’s easy to get caught up in everything and forget a few things. That’s why it’s a good idea to create a list of everything that you’ll need to make sure you’re prepared.

Food

Puppys have unique nutritional needs, different from full grown dogs. Puppy food is specially formulated to have more nutrients, such as fat and protein, and calories than regular dog food which helps them grow into strong healthy dogs. Once your Puppy is fully grown it's important to switch to dog food as puppy food can cause weight gain in adult dogs.

Food & Water Bowls

As you won’t initially know what your new fur baby’s eating habits are like, consider purchasing non-tip food and water bowls. These can be great tools for preventing spills and messes in your kitchen, whether your pup gets too excited while eating or you’re still getting used to having bowls on your floor! As your furry friend grows and you get used to their eating habits, there are a wide variety of bowls and feeders available to suit any dog

Beds, Crates & Gates

Pet crates and gates can be some of the most useful tools when bringing home and training a new puppy. As it will take a while for your companion to get used to their new home, a crate can help them feel safe and secure.

When selecting a gate, the size of your dog should be one of the first things you consider. If your dog is a larger breed (or happens to be a talented jumper), be sure the gate you select is tall enough to keep them contained. Even if they’re small now – keep in mind how quickly they will grow! For smaller breeds, it’s important to examine the spacing between each bar as some dogs may be small enough to squeeze through. If you’re planning to install a gate that will be up in your home for a while, consider purchasing a walk-through gate. As these types of gates have latches and swinging doors, they offer a convenient option as you won’t have to hop over the gate each time you enter or exit the room!

Collars, Leashes and Harnesses

From front and back clip harnesses to training collars, there are a variety of devices that can help train and control your new pup! As your puppy will be growing quickly, consider purchasing an adjustable collar or harness so that it won’t have to be replaced soon. Limited slip collars can be used as an effective tool in training your dog to walk on a leash. These collars will deliver a gentle correction to your beloved companion if they try to pull while on a walk, without a choking effect.

These types of devices should only be used when you’re training or supervising your dog, but there are plenty of standard collars, leashes and harnesses available to suit puppies of all sizes and breeds!

Training Pads

When it comes to potty training your pup, puppy pads can be a lifesaver! Featuring thick absorbent layers and a built-in attractant, your puppy will be encouraged to take care of their business on the pad and prevent any unwanted messes and stains on your carpets and floors!

Another great tool for house training your puppy, the Skip to my Loo house training scent is created to encourage your dog to take care of their business in a specific spot! Featuring a unique attractant formula that mimics animal urine, this eco-friendly product is safe for pets, people and the planet and can be used indoors and outdoors. Whether training your dog to use the yard, pee pads or the Pet Loo toilet, this formula is the perfect house training tool!

Toys

It’s no secret that puppies love to chew and being prepared with suitable toys at home can help keep them happy! Made with unique KONG Classic puppy rubber, the KONG Puppy Teething Stick features denta-ridges that gently clean and soothe your pup’s sore gums when chewed. Also made with KONG Classic puppy rubber, the unique shape of the KONG Binkie is designed to soothe sore teeth and gums and teach puppies appropriate chewing behavior.

Treats

It goes without saying that the best way to train a puppy is through positive reinforcement which means you will need lots of treats! Ren’s carries a vast selection of tasty low calories treats that will help with training and won’t throw your puppy’s diet off. When rewarding your puppy with a treat it's important to mix up the amount you give them each time. For example if you are teaching your pup to sit, the first few times they do it you can give them a few treats as a reward. Then when they sit again do not give them any treats, only praise. Finally, when you get them to sit again give them some treats. This teaches them not to expect a treat each time they follow your command.

Grooming Supplies

Proper grooming habits such as brushing and nail trimming not only ensure your pet will be comfortable throughout the year it also promotes good health. Regularly brushing your dog's coat every few weeks removes dead hair and skin leaving a healthy and strong coat. Nail Trimming is also a grooming habit that should be done every few weeks. Long untrimmed nails can cause bad posture and broken nails can be painful. While nail trimming can sometimes cause anxiety there are many nail trimmers that have stoppers that guarantee you will not cut anywhere near the nail bed, making the process easy and painless.

Cat Trees

Since cats are independent creatures, many believe that means they are low-maintenance and therefore do not require much entertainment. While you do not have to walk your cat or let them out to do their business, that does not mean they do not require a stimulating environment. Cats are natural climbers and jumpers, and often feel safest when up high. That is your cat will often jump up on furniture, countertop, and even cabinetry. Cat trees take care of your cats' need to climb and jump while also creating a safe space they can claim as their own. Cat trees also promote exercise and both physically and mentally stimulate your cat, which not only saves your furniture and countertops but also leads to a happy cat.

Cat Beds

Cats can sleep anywhere and at any time, so it is understandable to think that they may not need a cat bed. However, cat beds have many benefits, the first being helping them find a comfortable spot. When a cat has a bed, it encourages them to sleep in one spot and allows the cat to feel safe as they know that bed is theirs. Using cat beds, especially in your home office, will allow your cat to be close to you without them feeling like they have to be on top of you.

Wet Food

Many cat owners view wet food as a special treat they give their cat once a week or on special occasions like Thanksgiving or Christmas. However, wet food has many health benefits and should be incorporated into your cat's diet more often. Wet food is high in protein and moisture, which will aid in keeping your cat hydrated and energized. It is also good for cats who may have to shed a little weight as it is already pre-portioned.

Collars and Harnesses

While it is true that you do not have to walk a cat like you do a dog, that does not mean cats do not benefit from time outside. Cats enjoy going outside as there are new sounds and smells to explore, which is both mentally and physically stimulating. To ensure they are safe while exploring the world outside, harnesses will ensure your cat stays close to you while still keeping them comfortable.
