  • The ‘Old Quarry' Trail

Posted on July 27, 2012 by Cassie

Ever wonder what new adventures be waiting around in your own neighbourhood, just hollering to be discovered?

Trails and hiking areas don't solely exist in obscure parts of nature. You don't have to pack up for days of camping to experience soothing fresh air and local scenery. Your dog would be thrilled to go on a walk with you anywhere, but there are definitely perks to trails and parks that are pet friendly!

Canadians are lucky - the large amount of space between neighbours, both individual and "city-wise", often means there's a hiking trail or fresh water stream (or even lake!) just waiting to be discovered! It's my goal to help inform each of you as to some of the best ones in our area (Southern Ontario), though I hope to expand beyond this region in time!

Let's start with one close to home (for us, it's Guelph, ON)!

    Location: 10 Township Rd S
    Length: 1 km
    AKA: The Old Quarry Trail

Head down Wellington 124 if you're coming from KW/Cambridge or travel up Niska Road if you're coming from Guelph, and you will find yourself at 10 Township Road S.

To the end of this trail, you will discover a large man-made lake to the left where dogs can swim and with enclosed farm-fields to the right. Spread out and enjoy various paths, as there are many small trails that snake off the main path.

And remember - always be prepared on your hikes, no matter how lengthy! Bring plenty of water for yourself and your dog, a sturdy leash, some poop bags, a doggie life-jacket and maybe a FurDry (after that lovely swim!).

Have a favourite trail? Tell us below and we can feature it!
